Welcome to Escroc

We’re a startup company on the cutting edge of technology and have won awards for our innovation, also our founder is a developer and he takes all feedback into consideration to improve the company.

The New Hire

I wanted to move closer to my family therefore I looked into remote positions and I was hired. Now, I can finally move. After the interview, I looked forward to my first day. Remote work was new, but not difficult. I’m a self-starter and I can figure things out.

During the hiring process I had the idea that Escroc was a modern company. The type of company that understood work can be done remotely, people understood how to use technology, feedback was used to improve the company, and that since it is a startup that things will not be smooth initially because they’re still figuring it out.

Yet, even on my first day of clocking in the red flags were literally slapping me in the face.

Shipment Received

They shipped out a work computer to me. It was a huge desktop, but it wasn’t new. Dated, old, and extremely heavy. The pacakaging was chaotic, like the computer pieces were canon blasted into a cardboard box.

It was ethernet only. No problem except for the fact that homes typically only have one ethernet port and it’s typically for the internet provider and the device didn’t have a wireless adapter. Okay, fine, but then I realized I had no log in credentials.

My new boss finally texts me and I let them know I haven’t received any login credentials. I wasn’t able to use the computer, therefore I used my personal computer. The boss said that’s what everyone else is doing therefore I did the same.

I was never able to log into that computer.
