Tadeo, one of the hostages in Our Dollhouse may seem like a guy wanting to make the best of a situation where he feels defeated.
I doubt it. I doubt it because I believe he is the reason why he and Maite are being held in an undisclosed location.
I just finished playing the demo of Our Dollhouse, an indie game currently being developed by Florisam. I honestly should have waited for the entire game to be released because I can’t stop thinking about who did this.
The demo for this game was dropped about 4 days on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
First, What Is Our Dollhouse?
This is a suspense horror thriller visual novel video game. You start the game as Maite, she wakes up and she doesn’t know anything but knows that she didn’t wake up in her room.
She can also hear voices/noises on the opposite side of her door, but her thoughts are interrupted by a voice that consumes the whole home.
The voice lets them know that both hostages Maite and Tadeo are being watched. The voice cannot hear them, but he can definitely see them no matter where they go.
The Our Dollhouse Demo is available for free if you want to check it out. It is a visual novel with an estimated playthrough time of about one hour.
You should play it and tell me what your theories are because I want to know if I’m just picking up on things that aren’t there.
Playing The Game
The demo doesn’t take much time to play and is a low effort which is the appeal of visual novels. They’re like books, but interactive.
Initially, when starting the game I thought oh this is your average I don’t know who I am and I’ve been kidnapped, but the more I played the game the more I wanted to know who did this and why did they do this.
Over the span of 1 to 4 days, you are inside this house with another hostage. The house has no windows, there’s garden-like wallpaper, and there is a garden inside. However, the garden is actually full of fake plants.
Even though you are a hostage you are free to roam the house. The only rule is you can’t leave the house.
You (Maite) and your roommate, Tadeo spend time exploring the other rooms in the house. They find the usual rooms such as a kitchen, and a laundry room, and the only shocking/weird room is the inside garden which also has a TV that they aren’t able to turn on.
You fill the rest of your time cooking and getting to know each other until the voice comes back to let you know it’s light out. Yes, the voice enforces a curfew where you must go to sleep at a certain time.
I’m Convinced That The Kidnapper In Our Dollhouse Is Tadeo
Tadeo is the other “hostage” in Our Dollhouse and I find him to be mad suspicious. I understand that some people are lonely and yearn for company, but even if so you still want to get out of a bad situation.
He not only behaves strangely, but he says strange things. Maite asks Tadeo if he slept well every morning and he always seems to not be able to get any sleep.
I believe it is because he is up making those voice recordings that disrupt their day. I also believe he is the one who is assaulting Maite while she sleeps through the night. Oh, and he is the one restocking the food in the kitchen.
Whenever Maite wants to come up with a strategy or brainstorm a way to get out of the home, he doesn’t seem enthused at all. He just wants to hang out and cook for her all the time.
Put yourself in their situation. You have been lonely or felt that you didn’t belong and all of sudden you are inside a strange house with a hostage. You both bond and realize your lives were similar in the sense that you both were lonely.
Would you still want to stay in this unknown location with this guy you’ve known for merely hours forever just because you don’t want to be alone?
I honestly don’t think so. You would still want to get out of that house and find out what was going on, but keep in touch with the other hostage. Yet, it seems with Tadeo he is determined to stay with Maite and has no desire to get out.
There is a scene where Maite doesn’t speak very highly of herself and Tadeo gets visibly upset.
In another instance in Our Dollhouse the visual novel game, Maite looks into her closet and sees all of her clothes from her apartment are in this new place, but some items are missing. The next morning Tadeo just so happens to have found these clothes in the bathroom that neither of them saw when they first explored the house.
If I am wrong about Tadeo I will gladly eat my words, but this is just my theory about Our Dollhouse. I cannot wait for the full game to be released so I can find out if I’m right or wrong, either way, I will be pleased.
