Flower Of Evil, I absolutely adore you!
I was looking for Hocus Pocus, but instead found Flower of Evil.
It was a typical weekday evening and I had some time to burn. Actually, I believe it was a Friday and Hocus Pocus 2 was just released. I had watched so many reviews on Youtube for Hocus Pocus 2 and planned to watch it, yet I ditched that plan once my tv turned on.
Netflix by default loaded up and I wasn’t going to exit the app for a movie that didn’t have glowing reviews. Additionally, I am actively avoiding popular content. Reason? It usually ends up being underwhelming or as the young folks say mid.
I read the little description for Flower of Evil, and it sounded so basic that I was sure I was going to high-tail it out of there in a few minutes.
Well, I definitely lied to myself, because Flower of Evil is an absolute gem.
Before I jump into my manifesto as to why this show is so frickin’ good!
Could you please take a moment to vote? Thank you!
People online always say they do not watch Netflix which makes me wonder. What platform are you watching your shows/movies on?
[forminator_poll id=”5540″]Flower of Evil is a Suspense Thriller Korean Drama available right now on Netflix
This show (Flower of Evil) is a Studio Dragon production that was filmed in South Korea and released on July 28, 2020, in the United States. The plot of the show is as basic as it gets.
It is the tale of a young married couple with a young child. The wife, Cha Ji Won played by Moon Chae-won is a detective. The husband, Baek Hee Sung played by Lee Joon-gi is a metalsmith with a deep dark past that his wife is unaware of. The husband’s actual name is Do Hyun Su, but we will talk about that later.
Episode #1 — Flower of Evil Recap
When a young boy accuses his dad of trying to murder him, Detective Cha Ji-won investigates. An unwelcome person of Do Hyeon-su’s past visits his metal shop.
In the first scene, you are introduced to some smooth Korean R&B vibe music video. Cha and Baek are loving each other in his metal shop. Yet, it quickly becomes vile because the young couple is having dinner with Baek’s mother and father.
Baek’s mother is beyond savage. She not only insults Cha’s parenting but is cold to her own granddaughter. Baek Eun Ha says I love you, and there is no response from either parent.
Ouch.
They make it to the dinner table and seems only seconds have passed before Detective Cha has to excuse herself. Of course, her mother-in-law takes another jab before Cha runs off to work. Baek’s parents (mainly his mother), start talking about how horrible he is for marrying Cha. We find out here that Baek has a dark past that is unbeknownst to Cha.
This scene is a great setup, but what kills me is that Baek’s mom just really hates Cha like she personally did something to them. Maybe, she has but we aren’t aware of it yet.
The episode continues on and we get to see Moon Chae-won do some serious detective work with her colleagues.
They’re investigating a father who is believed to have tried to murder his very own son. Putting together a story of what they believed happened, did make me extremely upset, as they paint a vision that this overweight child was being punished by his father. The father is making him take the stairs and then becomes disgusted with the fact that his son is not in shape leading him to push his son down the stairs leaving him unconscious in a pool of blood.
Thank god that isn’t what happened.
What really happened is his son was going upstairs to his home but encountered a scary white cotton ball-sized dog that made him injure himself trying to get away.
I shouldn’t have laughed, but I did. Ah, well.
There’s more to the story as this kid’s dad does end up being arrested. We find out that he has been poisoning his wife because he’s having an affair with the doctor who works at the obesity clinic where his son gets medical help from.
This is still awful, but I can deal with an affair.
The Highlights from Flower of Evil Episode 1
Detective Cha requests to be alone with the son as he lies in his hospital bed, dismissing the son’s mother and father. Cha’s partner is in the hallway with the parents and this is when the dad becomes a pompous jackass.
We find out that he is a lawyer as he exclaims how is going to file a formal complaint because Detective Cha is getting testimony from a child without a parent being present. Cha walks out and slaps handcuffs on him while explaining that he is under arrest for the attempted murder of his wife and he is taken away. Top-tier hero moment!
Baek’s mother calls Cha. This scene is brutal. It broke my poor cold heart hearing how cruel she is in telling Cha that she is dead to her. Cha is visibly upset, but accepts her mother-in-law’s wishes, but only if she doesn’t tell Baek as it will upset him dearly.
Now, while all of this is happening, someone visits the metal shop that Baek doesn’t want to see, and he ends up knocking this guy unconscious, tying him up, and leaving him in the basement as he runs back upstairs to take care of his daughter. His wife, Cha, walks into a storybook moment.
Cha has a seemingly perfect life. Her husband not only works, he cooks, and their daughter loves him.
On a scale of 1 to 5, episode 1 of Flower of Evil gets a score of 3.5/5.
This episode was carefully balanced to ensure that each character was introduced properly, but we are still wanting to know more. Plus, I wanted to know if this show would play out like one of my favorites Law & Order SVU. It sorta does, but not really and I love that. This show blows You out of the water.
I will continue to watch this show. I simply cannot get enough!
As of today, I am on episode 6 of Flower of Evil, and I will be posting episode recaps for each one. Yeah, you’ll be sick of me soon
