I knew Disney Dreamlight Valley would be fun, but I did not expect to play over 20 hours of this game within 48 hours. Actually, I clocked most of those hours in one day.
The Sad Story Behind Disney Dreamlight Valley
Everyone and everything has been affected by “The Forgotten”. Throughout the game, you will learn more and more about what “The Forgotten” is, but if you are reading this post you will get to learn what is now.
Yep, because I love those that read my blog I wanted to spoil this bit for you!
Spoiler AlertThe Forgotten is your childhood and you were once the ruler of this world called Dreamlight Valley. Hints are given to you from the characters, but Mother Gothel straight out just says you were the ruler and you left them. So, yep you are responsible for all of this mess and now you have to clean it up.
It is incredibly sad because the reason I really got my first job was to be able to afford more video games. That was more than 20 years ago.
Yet, here I am old as hell and I still think about all the games and comics I can afford with each new money-making adventure. Listen we never forget the things we love, but we get wrapped up in adult duties that we push our hobbies aside.
We have to cook, clean the house, fold the laundry, put away the laundry, not eat pop-tarts, make sure to not sit too long, get a minimum of 30 minutes of activity daily, get 8 hours of sleep, hang out with friends, and more, more, more!
By the time we even think about playing a video game, it is time to turn down.
Believe me, when I say, many of us would love to stay home and get lost in a video game instead of exchanging our time just to be able to afford a box of cereal.
Here Are My Thoughts On Dreamlight Valley Mid-Quest
I know you have heard of or seen this game, and you may be hesitant.
I am here to tell you to go ahead and play this game, but make sure you have a lot of time reserved. Yet, I want to prepare you with some bits and bobs that you’ll encounter in Dreamlight Valley.
The Storage Situation
All quests within Dreamlight Valley require you to carry certain items at certain times, but if you are like most of us, you hold on to everything because eventually, you will need it.
In this game, I am absolutely a jewel thief. They’re fake but oh so shiny. I cannot help myself.
Yet, I made the major mistake of gifting a jewel to Goofy of all people and regretted it for hours. Honestly, my advice to you is to never gift jewels/gems regardless of how much you want to impress your virtual friends.
I have been using my home as a storage unit for the time being, but you can build a few chests and put them outside your home. Most players are using the chests to store the various seeds we use for farming. You can even add a storage room to your home, but I haven’t made it as a billionaire in this game quite yet to try out this lavish storage method.
If you are thinking why would anyone need this much storage in a game?
Well, let me enlighten you.
Your Dreamlight Valley backpack even when you expand it doesn’t hold much. You can pay 20,000 gold coins for even more backpack room, but to me, it isn’t worth it when you can build chests, etcetera much cheaper.
Also, in the game, you will need some spare storage spots. For example when you are completing one of the quests you have to harvest 3 items and take them with you to the next phase. If you do not have room in your backpack you either have to run back home and drop them off there or just drop them right where you are to move on to the next task.
It is annoying, but don’t get upset because anything you leave behind you can actually go back and get.
Right now I am collecting pieces to see my favorite Disney Princess, The Little Mermaid, Ariel and also helping Moana fix a boat. I never thought finding different types of wood would be so irritating, haha!
Get Used To Fishing!
Fishing is easy. Aim, and tap whenever you see green and you will catch your fish! If you need seaweed just aim outside of the white, blue, or gold bubbles.
- You will need to fish every day that you play this game
- Selling fish is an easy way to make a few gold coins
- Make some meals with fish and sell them for even more gold coins
- Pick up all shells that you see! Clams, scallops, and oysters keep them in stock!
Cooking, Harvesting, The Community, and More Tips!
You definitely will be harvesting a lot of crops, cooking a bunch, and mining more than you think.
- My biggest tip is that if your life bar is low go back home. Walk into your home then walk right back out. You’ll have a full life meter without losing any inventory.
- Cooking is very fun in this game. Your recipes are limited to 5 ingredients making them simple.
- Make sure to put a crafting station in your home, if you do not want to run back home to craft just use Goofy’s station which is right outside his home. Very convenient place!
- Keep coal on hand. You never know when you are going to need to cook! I like to pop into my friends’ homes and cook meals for them just because why not.
- Unlock all wells as soon as possible.
- Upgrade all of the stalls immediately!
- Take your friendships in Disney Dreamlight Valley seriously. Make sure you hang out with them often, do that daily dialogue, and gift them! Not going to lie to you, for a minute I was ignoring Mickey and Goofy because they are so annoying to me in this game because they just pop out of nowhere wanting to chat, lol.
- This game is synced to real-time so if you play at night it will be night in the game. Do not change your PC settings to daytime because you will mess the game up.
- I recommend keeping this link on deck when you’re cooking.
- Since this is your world you can move things around however you want. Some players are even moving wells to access areas that you normally cannot access due to design limitations.
- The Disney Dreamlight Valley community is very active! I joined the forums and groups. If you post your in-game pictures on Instagram make sure you tag them with these hashtags #disneydreamlightvalley and/or #dreamlightvalley. I had a question in my Instagram caption and a few people actually answered it!
My Own Dreamlight Valley Mishaps and Misadventures
This game is in early access for a reason, therefore glitches and so on are to be expected. To be honest this game doesn’t have very many.
The Glitches I Encountered
They’re minor.
There were a few times when I was just walking and I ended up walking in place or stuck in one position against a wall.
Also, when I made it to the magical castle I didn’t get a choice of which biome I wanted to enter. Moana’s world was already available… This might be my fault as maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but let me know if you had the same issue. I definitely wouldn’t have chosen Moana’s place before Ratatouille. I need the dairy products from Remy to make those 4 and 5-star recipes!
Your friends, Goofy, Mickey, Moana, all of them will get in the way of whatever you are doing. Get used to moving your angles around to see what you are doing!
The Housing Situation
Whenever you finish a quest in a biome, such as Ratatouille, and you ask Remy to come back to Dreamlight Valley with you, he will only come back unless he has a home.
Actually, every single character you want to bring back to Dreamlight Valley requires a home. This part just doesn’t sit right with me at all. Not the getting them a home part. I love that part! The part where you have to shell out all your pretty gold coins to get your new friend’s home built.
You get their house and plop it where the Dreamlight Valley recommends, but then you have to pay Scrooge McDuck a seriously pretty penny for their home to be built.
I think it would be nice if the game gave you half of the gold coins needed to build the home or allowed you an option to build it yourself.
For example, Ursula’s place is 10,000 gold coins. To those that have pumpkin patches that is nothing, but for someone that hasn’t gotten that far Ursula is going to be “homeless” for a minute. If they added an option where you could do a DIY home kit for let’s say 5,000 gold coins that would be better. You would just have to gather a few items, etc. Similar to what they did for Donald’s ship.
Are You Playing Disney Dreamlight Valley?
If you are not playing Disney Dreamlight Valley, my advice is that if you are still thinking about it go ahead and purchase the game. There are three different levels, but I chose the lowest tier which is $29.99.
Yes, the game upon official release to the public will be free to play, but I have heard through the grapevine that many items will be unlocked after payment has been submitted. Think of Pokemon Go, I am sure I have spent a few hundred in that game for just pokeballs alone!
