Don’t Worry Darling which is set to release on September 23, 2022 was one of the most highly anticipated films for the year of 2022.

Yet, the drama behind the scenes has become the center of attention.

Before we jump into the chaos, I want to provide some information about the film, because I am still genuinely very interested in seeing it play on the big screen. And I do believe you, as the reader, should have some background information on this movie before proceeding.

This is my warning that the beginning of this article will sound like a sad book report, but I just want to make sure you get the facts, Jack!

Now go ahead and have your cup coffee, tea, diet coke or whatever ready to sip while reading this post.

Don’t Worry Darling is a psychological thriller movie with a R-rating due to its sexual, violent, and vulgar content. The movie was filmed in several locations within the state of California including: Palm Springs, The Kaufmann Desert House by Richard Neutra, Los Angeles, Troy Dry Lake, and The Volcano House in Newberry Springs. Olivia Wilde held a supporting role, in addition to serving as producer and director in the film.

The cinematography of the film was handled by Matthew Libatique, who also worked on the 2010 film Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. The cinematography of this film is stunning, and the main reason as to why I really want to see this particular film. It is also edited by Affonso Gonçalves with music by John Powell.

Our writers for the movie included Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke (The Van Dyke Brothers), and Katie Silberman, author of Book Smart, which was also directed by Olivia Wilde.

The cast includes Florence Pugh as Alice Chambers (lead role), Harry Styles as Jack Chambers, Olivia Wilde as Bunny, Dita Von Teese as Gigi, Gemma Chan as Shelley, and Chris Pine as Frank, who is the founder of the utopian town that they all reside in.

Movie Notes — Florence Pugh was originally cast to play Bunny. Shia LeBeouf was originally cast to play Jack Chambers, but quit due to scheduling conflicts. Harry Styles took his place in the movie. Dita Von Teese is also in this movie.

The storyline for Don’t Worry Darling — The movie is about a loving couple, Alice Chambers (Florence Pugh) and Jack Chambers (Harry Styles) who live in Victory, California in the 1950s. Eventually, Alice’s curiosity is piqued to uncover what’s behind Jack’s workaholic tendencies, and uncover the actual truth behind the Victory Project.

Will it be given a fair chance in theaters?

The film is being overshadowed by the personal lives of featured talent and everyone. And yes, I mean everyone that knew about this film is captivated trying to follow along with each new piece of information released in regards to everything that has happened with the cast.

If you don’t know what is going on with Don’t Worry Darling, here is an overview so far. . .

  • At the 79th Venice International Film Festival, it is believed that Harry Styles when getting ready to sit next to Chris Pine allegedly spit on him — the verdict is out because some say yes and some say, no as it depends on your perspective.

  • Also during the 79th Venice International Film Festival, there was obvious tension between the actors: Florence Pugh refused to even look in Olivia Wilde’s direction, Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde seating arrangements were apart, while Harry Styles rebuffed Olivia Wilde during a photo op.
  • Chris Pine showed up with an actual camera to take pictures of Florence Pugh, (because he doesn’t use a smartphone), which was the cutest thing out of something so ugly.
  • Ms. Pugh’s stylist even threw some shade by captioning her Instagram post of the starlet as “Miss Flo”, which is what Olivia Wilde called Florence when she was begging Shia L. to come back to production.
  • Florence Pugh has been skipping out on the promotion tour of the film. She is typically known for gushing online about all of the projects that she’s worked in, except for this latest production.
  • At the Venice Film Festival, each film is rated by how long the crowd claps — and the duration was short-lived. During this time, Miss Flo dipped out.

Well, Darling I am DEFINITELY WORRYING!

Can we please take a quick moment to talk about the fashion for the 79th Venice International Film Festival?

Despite them all fighting, they all looked impressive! Olivia Wilde’s yellow dress was gorgeous and Florence Pugh’s dress made me gag! The boys looked dapper, but as usual, Florence always hits it out of the park not only in acting, but in fashion as well.

With All Of That Going On Who Actually Cares About The Film?

Well Olivia does. This was her moment to prove herself. Not only to the public, but to those that approved the film’s budget of $20,000,000.00, which is considered a big budget for a female director.

Also, so many people fell in love with Olivia’s movie, Book Smart, which was also written by Ms. Silberman. The duo received kudos and nods from many and they were all excited to see what their next project would be, especially since Wilde and Silberman’s dream budget was manifested.

In an interview with Variety, Olivia Wilde talks about why it is so hard for female directors to get approval for large budgets. She also discusses her experience with directing Florence Pugh and Harry Styles for Don’t Worry Darling.

Early Reviews of Don’t Worry Darling

Currently, the public is deeply invested in all of the drama and this can be a very serious problem for Olivia Wilde. She was trusted with a larger budget, and this was her moment to prove that women, when given a chance can craft movies that the public will love. She leaned into the stereotypical girl boss role to rally hype around her movie. This move may have backfired.

The public is standing by Florence Pugh in the debacle. People that haven’t seen the movie are already review bombing. You can check IMDB and other movie review sites to see. This is sad because if the film is good, it is already marred by the events highlighted earlier. The new culture these days goes to the extreme. They tend to be unwilling or know how to separate the person from the fictional character.

No one died in real life during the production of Don’t Worry Darling. Yes, feelings were hurt. Lies were told. Fake activism was done, and egos were in the way. Will we be able to put all of that aside to give this movie a fair chance?

I would love to know what your thoughts regarding all of this drama: are you’re going to see this movie on opening day/weekend, if ever at all? I just re watched both trailers and I still want to see this even if the story is something we’ve heard and seen before. I want to see Florence Pugh’s acting chops and how Olivia manages her cast.
