This is a movie review for Space Cadet which is set to release on July 4, 2024. The movie stars Emma Roberts as Tiffany “Rex” Simpson and Poppy Liu as Nadine.

Are you a 30 something adult that just wakes up and goes through the motions? Have you at one point taken a moment to remember that you at one point had dreams that weren’t based on making sure that your bills were paid?

Did you ever take action on trying to achieve that dream?

In the movie Emma Roberts, plays Rex a girl that lost track of her dreams and decides to go after it! What’s Rex’s dream? Well, it is to become an astronaut.

No, she doesn’t have training for this at all. She’s a bartender, but she is going to apply for training. The fun part begins when she messages her ride or die bestie, Nadine, played by the charming Poppy Liu, takes it upon herself to exaggerate our budding astronaut’s qualifications.

It works.

Rex ends up living her dream, but the truth does eventually come to the surface.

If You Hate Nonsensical Campy Movies Made For Fun, Then This Isn’t For You

Warning: Even though this movie has adults, this is not a serious movie. This movie is a feel good, fun, illogical, goofy movie that might possibly spark some people to question their own life decisions.

The fact that Rex somehow makes it into astronaut training without undergoing an intense background check should be an indication that the movie isn’t taking itself serious.

Our main character manages to make everyone fall in love with her personality, positivity and on the spot problem solving. She encourages the others that also dream of going to space even when one aspiring astronaut isn’t too keen on Rex.

For someone that has no training in any of the things that are thrown at her she’s definitely confident. She can fly an airplane and save her friends in space with a bedazzler tool.

What can’t she do? I mean she even ends up having our space nerd fall in love with her.

I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t expecting much when watching the film, but I was pleasantly surprised.

It definitely lifted my mood and had me cheering for Rex and Nadine throughout the entire movie. It was a beautiful representation of how contagious positivity truly is when attached to a can-do attitude and the power of friendship.

Even though the Emma Roberts is the star of the film, her co-star Poppy Liu shines just as brightly in this campy comedy.

Throughout this campy comedy Nadine (Poppy Liu) is right there to assist Rex with any obstacle. From being Rex’s Canva Queen to playing several different roles to ensure that Rex’s references check out. She really just wants her close friend to live her dream. Nadine is the friend we all wish we had if we don’t already.

I had the pleasure of interviewing the wonderful Poppy Liu. She shared her experience with using Canva, how she managed to portray many different personalities for the movie.
